June 3rd 2014 We had the lovely Andrea Gribbon giving a short presentation on Transcendental Meditation Transcendental Meditation was brought to the world by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi 50 years ago and has been learned by 5 million people. It is a simple, natural, effortless procedure practiced 20 minutes twice each day while sitting comfortably with the eyes closed. It’s not a religion, philosophy, or lifestyle. It’s the most widely practiced, most researched, and most effective method of self-development. The meditation is Free to members/ £2 for non-members.

Disability Exhibition 2014

30th and 31st May 2014 We are taking part in Disability Exhibition 2014 on the 30th and 31st May at the new King's Hall Pavilions, Belfast. The exhibition is open from 10am – 4pm on both days and free of charge to attend. The exhibition is a fantastic opportunity for people with disabilities, their families, carers and healthcare professionals to find out about the latest products and services for disabled people. These include transport, aids and equipment, sports activities, technology, benefits and much more. As you know the 12th May is ME Awareness Day. This year ME Support NI have elicited the help of the Belfast City Council in order to have the Belfast City Hall lit up Blue in order to Shine a Light on ME. Shine a light on ME ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) is characterised by a range of neurological symptoms and signs, muscle pain with intense physical or mental exhaustion, relapses, and specific cognitive disabilities. The World Health Organisation’s International Classification of Disease lists ME as a disorder of the nervous system, under Post-Viral Fatigue Syndrome (Block 93.3, ICD 10th revision, 2007). Studies indicate that most people with ME / CFS are unable to work to full capacity, and that a significant number (from 10 to 25%) are effectively house or bed-bound. Children also are unable to attend school to full capacity, or if severely affected are unable to attend school at all. ME Support NI Is a support group for people with ME and is based in Belfast. There are approximately 7,000 sufferers here in NI. Apart from supporting patients with the illness, fundraising for ME Research, lobbying for better healthcare provision, we also do what we can to raise awareness of the condition. Lighting the City Hall blue would certainly shine a light on ME in Belfast, blue being the colour of the ribbon that is worn universally to represent ME.
